NOTE – To the fullest extent possible, we want those attending all 6 days of core training to attend sessions 1, 2 and 3 during consecutive months. (e.g., Those attending Session 1 in July, should attend Session 2 in August and Session 3 in September.)

AUDIENCE
This is the next step for Employment Specialists who have previously attended Session 1, "Supported Employment 101." All are welcome to attend (even if not required to attend)!
NOTE: Session 1 is a prerequisite for attending Sessions 2 and 3.

TOPICS
Session 2 (2 days) – Personalized Planning and Job Development - What's a good job for this person, and how do we know? How might we discover personal gifts and talents previously unrecognized? What are fitting types of work formerly unconsidered? Person-Centered Job Selection (derived from Marc Gold & Associates "Discovery") provides the foundation for all supported employment services that follow. This day will focus on the process of: • planning personalized approaches to discovery, • writing a plan, • convening interested others to think about fitting kinds of work, and • using what's learned to get ready for job development.
After we know the kind of job we're seeking, then how do we find it? What are varied ways that we might represent the people we serve? What are issues surrounding disclosure? In job development we'll hit the ground running with information learned during Person Centered Job Selection. We'll explore: • customized jobs, • informational interviews, • contacting employers, • employer incentives, • answering employer objections, • developing public relations materials, and more.
Session 3 (2 days) - We'll learn about taking the next step – moving from job development to job analysis: • Studying workplace culture, and learning about areas of particular importance, • Learning the typical employee instructional/support practices within a business, • Defining the roles of the SE Employment Specialist in a way that honors typical business practices to the fullest extent possible, and • Collecting information needed to negotiate a customized job.
What will happen to my check when I go to work? Will I lose my Medicaid? These are common questions that require clear answers. This day of training will provide basic information on the impact of wages on benefits including: • How people are determined to be eligible for social security benefits, • Differences in SSI and SSDI, • SSI and SSDI work incentives and the very different ways that wages impact these benefits, • How wages impact Medicaid (for SSI recipients), • Determining Medicaid "client liability, share of cost" for people served by SCL programs, and more. AUDIENCE
The 2018 SE Leadership Series is designed for people wanting to develop high quality supported employment services by learning and applying the latest and best approaches known for supporting people with disabilities getting good jobs. It features 12 days of advanced professional development offering the same topics provided in prior years: Part 1 - Social Role Valorization Theory (SRV) & SE, Part 2 - Systematic Instruction, Part 3 - Discovery, and Part 4 - Job Development. The demonstration of high quality supported employment services is essential in Kentucky and nationally. Our Leadership Series is dedicated to this cause -- offering experiential opportunities for learning and applying the latest and best employment approaches. We'll explore what to do and how to proceed, and most important WHY.
12 days not required - Participation in all four leadership events highly recommended. The content areas are designed to be sequential and cumulative. However, for some, participation in all 12 days may not be possible. Therefore, participants may select any combination of the four events. (Check event descriptions for prerequisite requirements and recommendations.) Because the same schedule will be offered annually, it will be possible, for example, to participate in Parts 1 and 2 in 2018, and then Parts 3 and 4 in 2019.
Three certifications will be offered - We’re continuing our arrangement with Marc Gold & Associates by offering three certifications: 1-Systematic Instruction, 2-Discovery, and 3-Job Development.
Please refer to 2018 SE Leadership Series page for information about: • Certification Options and Requirements, • Event Prerequisites, Content and Instructors, • Registration Form and Deadlines, and • Registration and Certification Fees
