HDI 50th Anniversary Spotlight on Patti Singleton

Published: July 31, 2019

It’s an honor to be part of HDI’s staff. I’ve grown professionally because of the challenges I’ve been presented with. The staff at HDI are devoted to the independence of individuals with disabilities, and it’s incredible to work with such passionate people.

—Patti Singleton, HDI Professional Learning Coordinator

How did you come to know HDI?

I was hired first in early childhood as the Trainer Credential Coordinator.

How long have you been at HDI and what is your role?

I’ve been with HDI for 14 years, and I work as the Trainer’s Credential Coordinator, Research and Development Associate, and Professional Learning Coordinator.

During your time at HDI, of which accomplishments are you most proud?

I am most proud that HDI’s online learning center now has 100 courses ranging from early care and education to adulthood.

Looking back, can you please share with us a fun or fond moment you had at HDI?

My first day at the Mineral Industries Building, my office was on the third floor and part of the ceiling had come down overnight!

Do you have any advice you would like to share with current and future staff and students at HDI?

The work we do is so important, no matter your position at HDI, you are supporting our most vulnerable populations across the Commonwealth.

What do you think the future holds for HDI?

Growth! We are an institute that is gaining a lot of ground.
