Health Partners

The Health Partners Program was a project created and piloted by HDI’s Health & Wellness Initiative which emphasized holistic health and self-determination for people with disabilities and a health partner of their choice. This program utilized an exciting curriculum called Healthy Lifestyles for People with Disabilities from the Institute on Disability and Development at Oregon Health & Science University. The curriculum was updated to incorporate a partnered approach and principles of universal design. By expanding programming opportunities, both partners benefit from health information and have the support to hold each other accountable in reaching self-identified goals. This program is in the sustainability phase after offering a train the trainer opportunity and now Special Olympics Kentucky is implementing the program with their athletes. The Health and Wellness staff are able to assist organizations who are interested in delivering their own program to participants.
