STATE TRANSITION POLICIES AND PRACTICES

PURPOSE:

  • The purpose of this series of studies was to extend the current research base on the type of policy infrastructure needed to support effective transitions.

APPROACH:

  • Conduct a national survey of the state administrators for early intervention, preschool special education, and state interagency councils to determine the status of the state level transition policies, procedures, and infrastructures in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Examine the relationship between state program factors and federal monitoring outcomes related to transition in five states.
  • Use quantitative statistical analysis to examine the relationships between state policies and child outcomes.

ACTIVITIES COMPLETED:

  • Survey of State Interagency Coordinating Council (ICC).
  • Community Resources Survey of Part C and 619 Coordinators.

PRODUCTS:

  • Technical Report 4: State Infrastructures to Support Young Children with Disabilities
