Dr. Harold Kleinert Recognized with Top AUCD Honor: George Jesien Lifetime Achievement Award

Retired HDI Executive Director and Professor Emeritus, Dr. Harold Kleinert, was recognized on Tuesday, November 17, with the top honor from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, the George Jesien Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is named for Dr. George Jesien who served as the Executive Director of AUCD for 14 years and led the organization’s growth to a national force in the disability community. Joining Dr. Kleinert for the ceremony were his wife and daughter, Jane and Coady, Dr. Kathy Sheppard-Jones, and a number of HDI staff and students. Continue reading

Katie Hastings Honored with AUCD Anne Rudigier Award

Katie Hastings (on the far left), our 2015 Burberry Award winner and current HDI research assistant, was honored last week with AUCD’s Anne Rudigier Award. This award recognizes an outstanding student demonstrating a commitment to supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families. Dr. Kathleen Sheppard-Jones shared that “this is AUCD’s highest pre-professional award and a powerful example of the high quality trainees that work and learn at HDI.” Continue reading

Northern Kentucky University Launches Commonwealth’s Fourth Comprehensive Transition Program!

The U.S. Department of Education has approved Northern Kentucky University (NKU) as the latest postsecondary institution in Kentucky to offer a Comprehensive Transition Program (CTP) for students with intellectual disabilities. Northern Kentucky University joins Murray State University, Bluegrass Community Technical College, and Spalding University in offering CTP.  Continue reading
